What I’m Reading: First Quarter 2021 Highlights

The new year got off to a slower reading start than normal. As of March 31, I completed 14 books: 11 fiction and 3 nonfiction. Only three have been five star reviews so far – although I’m in the middle of one that I think will make the five star list for the next quarter.

My favorites:

The Water Keeper by Charles Martin (5 stars)

Charles Martin’s books are pretty much always five star (and five tissue) reviews for me, but The Water Keeper takes it to a whole new level. Murphy quickly made his way to my list of all time favorite fictional characters. The emotion and depth of this book were incredible, and the action made it even better. I can’t wait for the release of book two in this series!

Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann (5 stars)

I’d heard of this book before, since it took place fairly close to where we live. I didn’t know anything about the Osage murders, though, until I heard the story on an episode of my favorite podcast, American Shadows. This was a well written, well researched book that pulls you into the story. Plus, that are currently filming a movie based off the book – go ahead and read this so you’ll be ready to watch the movie when it releases.

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie

I’m reading Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot series this year and really enjoying it. This book was definitely my favorite of the series so far. There are lots of twists and turns that show you why Christie is one of the best selling novelists of all time.
