Christmas Books I’m Reading This Year

Do enjoy Christmas books? I love reading books that get me in the Christmas spirit! One of my favorite things this time of year is drinking my coffee in the morning and reading a book by the light of the Christmas tree. It’s something I’ve loved for years, and it’s become a tradition I look forward to every year. If it’s a Christmas book, it just makes the season even more special. Here’s what I’ll be reading this year as Christmas approaches…

Like a Silver Bell by Lindsay Harrel

I love this series of Christmas novellas so much! It helps to have read Lindsay Harrel’s novel, The Secrets of Paper and Ink first, but it’s not a requirement. (It’s a great book, so you don’t want to miss it, even if you read the novellas first.) Plus, she just released a print collection of all three novellas. They’re short, easy reads that are so sweet and just perfect for the Christmas season.

The entire Port Willis Christmas collection is now available in one volume!

Once Upon a Dickens Christmas by Michelle Griep

I’ve found myself reading a lot more historical fiction this year. I wanted to read this novella collection last year, but didn’t have time. I’ve read and enjoyed some of Michelle Griep’s other books and I’m really looking forward to these!

Joy to the World collection

I just read my first book by Erica Vetsch this year and I enjoyed it. The other authors in this collection are new to me, and I’m looking forward to trying them. Regency books have a become a favorite of mine this year, so this collection is perfect.

The Christmas Heirloom collection

I stumbled across this book recommendation and knew I had to read it. It follows a family heirloom through time and generations, with Christmas stories from four different authors. I’ve read Becky Wade, but the other authors are new to me.

What are you reading this Christmas? Do you read different books each year, or do you have books you reread every Christmas?

About the Book

Jane Austen meets Sherlock Holmes in this new Regency mystery series

Newly returned from finishing school, Lady Juliette Thorndike is ready to debut in London society. Due to her years away, she hasn’t spent much time with her parents, and sees them only as the flighty, dilettante couple the other nobles love. But when they disappear, she discovers she never really knew them at all. They’ve been living double lives as government spies–and they’re only the latest in a long history of espionage that is the family’s legacy.

Now Lady Juliette is determined to continue their work. Mentored by her uncle, she plunges into the dangerous world of spies. From the glittering ballrooms of London to the fox hunts, regattas, and soirees of country high society, she must chase down hidden clues, solve the mysterious code her parents left behind, and stay out of danger. All the while, she has to keep her endeavors a secret from her best friend and her suitors–not to mention the nosy, irritatingly handsome Bow Street runner, who suspects her of a daring theft.

Can Lady Juliette outwit her enemies and complete her parents’ last mission?

My Review

This is my first book to read from Erica Vetsch, but I was excited to try it. I love Regency books, and I’ve heard a lot of good things about her. I wasn’t disappointed. I really enjoyed this book. The characters are great, there are lots of surprising twists and turns, and the ending left enough unanswered questions to make me really look forward to the next book in the series!

Quick Lit: November 2021

It’s time for Quick Lit with Modern Mrs. Darcy! Here’s what I’ve been reading lately…

The Lady Darby Mysteries #3: A Grave Matter, #4: A Study in Death, #4.5: A Pressing Engagement, #5: As Death Draws Near

I can’t get enough of this series! It’s so unique and so well written. Added bonus: our library only has the audiobooks, and the narrator is amazing.

The series takes place in 1830’s Scotland and England. Lady Kiera Darby has a shady past thanks to her now deceased husband, but she also learned unique skills that lead to her working with inquiry agent Sebastian Gage. It’s an unusual career for any woman, especially a woman of her standing, she and Gage find themselves drawn into more and more cases together.

The Debutante’s Code

I signed up to read this book as part of a team of bloggers and reviewers promoting it. It’s my first book from this author, but I love Regency books and I’ve heard a lot of good things about her. I’m glad I signed up, because I enjoyed it! It was a fun read with lots of twists and turns.

The Mobster’s Daughter

I got a chance to read this book before it released. This is another new-to-me author that I’m glad I took a chance on. I enjoyed this! I haven’t read a lot of books about the 1920’s. It’s a really interesting time period, and this story of a mobster’s daughter hiding her identity is really good.

What are you reading now? What’s on your TBR list for the next few weeks?
